Xytex donors mean no waiting for donor sperm at Fertility First

Sperm counts among western men have almost halved in the last 40 years, according to a study published in Reproductive Health Journal. The study was carried out over a 38 year period from 1973 to 2011 and revealed that the sperm concentration of men from Western countries such as North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand had drastically declined by approximately 52.4%.

Although there is no hard evidence to pinpoint the actual cause, researchers believe that there could be many underlying factors that could be having a negative effect on the sperm concentration. There is evidence to suggest that toxins related to smoking, alcohol and chemicals while in utero could have detrimental and long-lasting effects on the foetus as well as aspects relating to obesity and age.

Sperm banks such as Xytex in the United States are being utilised to help combat this issue, providing a valuable and viable solution that offers the highest quality standard of sperm in the industry. Xytex has been providing donor sperm to couples struggling with fertility since 1975 and are committed to offering clients the highest quality commitment.

Fertility First has been working with Xytex Cryo International for 13 years and as a result, have an extensive donor sperm list of approximately 50 donors available for our patients at any one time with no waiting list.

FAQs about improving natural fertility

Will stress affect my ability to get pregnant?

Yes, chronic stress can impact fertility by disrupting hormonal balance and ovulation patterns. Managing stress through relaxation techniques, regular exercise, adequate sleep, and mindfulness practices may help optimise your chances of conception. Consider speaking with a counsellor if stress feels overwhelming.

How does my partner's health affect our fertility?

Sperm health accounts for about 40% of conception challenges. Your partner can improve sperm health by maintaining a healthy weight, avoiding excessive heat exposure (hot tubs, saunas, tight clothing), limiting alcohol, quitting smoking, managing stress, and taking a multivitamin with antioxidants. Sperm takes about 3 months to develop, so lifestyle changes need time to show results.

When during my cycle am I most fertile?

Your fertile window typically spans 5-6 days, ending on ovulation day. For a regular 28-day cycle, this usually falls between days 10-15, with peak fertility 1-2 days before ovulation. Track your cycle using ovulation predictor kits, basal body temperature, or cervical mucus changes to identify your unique pattern. Having intercourse every 1-2 days during this window optimises your chances.
