EmbryoGen & BlastGen

EmbryoGen and BlastGen are specially formulated types of culture media that have been developed to improve the woman’s chances of conceiving. They are offered primarily to our patients who have experienced recurrent pregnancy loss, miscarriage, implantation failure or unexplained infertility.

Why choose Fertility First for your EmbryoGen and BlastGen treatment?

EmbryoGen and BlastGen use in Australia is currently pending under the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) and can only be accessed through an approved Authorised Prescriber.

The use of EmbryoGen and BlastGen at Fertility First has been endorsed by the Sydney Local Health District Ethics Review Committee at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Dr Anne Clark has received approval from the TGA to be an Authorised Prescriber.

As a result, Fertility First is one of the first fertility clinics in Sydney who can offer patients this ground breaking media.

When choosing a Sydney fertility clinic, it’s important to consider the success rates, as well as the quality of care.

FAQ's about EmbryoGen and BlastGen

A culture media system is used in the laboratory to improve embryo development in vitro. This system happens before implantation and has been proven to increase the overall success rates in fertility treatment.

EmbryoGen and BlastGen were developed in Adelaide and contains GM-CSF. This protein is upregulated during the embryo’s development and research has shown it has a beneficial effect on cell signalling, cell survival and differentiation, cell-to-cell communication and regulates embryo implantation.

The growth factor GM-CSF helps to improve the communication between the embryo and the uterine lining, making implantation more likely and increasing the chance of a healthy pregnancy. Recent research and New Zealand Clinics have revealed that EmbryoGen and BlastGen may have benefits for older mothers whose embryos are more likely to have genetic abnormalities. Embryos cultured in EmbryoGen and BlastGen have been associated with an increased survival rate once transferred and lower miscarriage rates.

The culture media contains a growth factor known as Cytokine Granulocyte-Macrophage Colony Stimulating Factor (GM-CSF), a naturally occurring signalling molecule that is found in the uterine environment.

These growth factors protect the embryo against stress, creating stronger, more robust embryos.
