Puregon Instructions

Wash and dry your hands thoroughly Unscrew the entire pen body from the cartridge holder and place on a clean, dry surface. Remove the cartridge from the package, clean the rubber inlay with an alcohol pad, pick up the cartridge holder and place the cartridge into the cartridge holder. Pick up the pen body and lower it into the cartridge holder. Note that the black rod must press against the rubber piston on the cartridge. Screw the pen body fully onto the cartridge holder, ensuring you have left no gap. The arrow on the cartridge holder must point tot the middle of the yellow alignment mark on the blue pen body. Attach the BD microfine pen needle peeling off the protective paper seal and screwing it onto the end of the outer needle shield.

Turn the dosage knob until you reach the dose that has been prescribed for you. Do not push the knob in while you are turning it. If you pass your dose DO NOT DIAL BACKWARDS as you will lose the fluid. Instead, continue to turn the dosage knob as far as it will go then push it back in and start again.

Puregon is given as a subcutaneous injection (under your skin) in the lower abdominal area. Clean the injection area with an alcohol swab. Pinch a fold of skin between your thumb and forefinger and insert the needle fully at a 90° angle Keep holding the pinch as you slowly inject by pushing the dosage knob in. Keep pushing on the knob until the dosage indicator has gone back to the zero mark (“0”). Keep the needle in the skin for 10 seconds after injecting then withdraw the needle.

Carefully put the outer needle cap back onto the needle and unscrew the used needle by turning anticlockwise. Dispose of your needle into your sharps container. Put the pen back into the refrigerator to reuse the next day (unless the pen is empty) Please be advised that when in doubt or if you have any questions or concerns, it is always best to contact the Nurses at the clinic and speak to them directly.
