What happens after you register your interest?

Once you've submitted your registration form, our administration team will contact you to arrange a counselling session.

  • The session will include you and your partner, if applicable
  • Counselling can take place in person or online
  • During the session, we'll discuss the implications and expectations of sharing information and making contact with other families

Why is counselling required?

Choosing to connect with another family who has used the same donor involves many considerations and potential outcomes that require careful thought. Counselling provides an opportunity to explore these aspects with a qualified professional who can guide you through the decision-making process.

After your counselling session, you'll be able to sign a consent form to register your preferred contact details. These can then be shared with other families who have used the same donor.

When will I hear from other families?

If and when there is a match:

  • Our counselling team will notify you by email
  • We'll provide the agreed contact details of the other family or families
  • Participation is entirely voluntary, so there may be no matches

Any contact following the sharing of information will be at the discretion of the families involved. Fertility First does not facilitate these ongoing connections.

What if there are problems down the track?

If you need additional support, Fertility First can refer you to external counsellors. Please note that our counsellors are unable to provide ongoing services.

What are the costs involved?

There is no charge for this service unless your treatment occurred at a non-Fertility First clinic.
