Starting a family is a deeply personal journey, and for many, it can be filled with uncertainty and emotional challenges. As you explore your fertility treatment options, understanding the financial aspects is an important part of the process.

We recognise that costs can be a significant concern, and so our aim is to provide you with clear, honest information about what financial investment you can expect for your fertility treatment. We also aim to minimise the costs of fertility treatment by conducting a comprehensive fertility assessment and optimising your natural fertility. Not only does this result in 50% of our patients either conceiving spontaneously or with simpler and more affordable treatments than IVF, but also reduces your miscarriage risk and improves pregnancy outcomes.

Our fertility treatment costs can be found in the table below. Costs are current on our website as of 1/8/2025.

The estimated out-of-pocket costs are based on the expected Medicare rebate for each service once you meet the safety net threshold with Medicare. Medicare Safety Nets - Services Australia. Note that not all services attract a Medicare rebate.

Additional costs

Other than the fees for your fertility procedures outlined in the table above, your treatment may incur some additional costs including:

  • Prediagnostic tests
  • Medications if required
  • Day surgery fees depending on the treatment you undertake
  • General anaesthetic if required as above
  • Fees associated with registering and purchasing donor sperm or donor eggs

Medicare and fertility treatments

Medicare rebates

The Medicare Benefits Schedule lists the value of each medical service as defined by the Australian government. The Medicare rebate is the proportion of the fee paid by Medicare on your behalf. This is usually 85% of the scheduled fee for outpatient services, and 75% for inpatient services.

Gap fees and out-of-pocket expenses

Medicare has been unable to keep up with the rising costs of medical services across all fields, including reproductive medicine. This means in order to continue providing sustainable, high-quality fertility care, we sometimes need to charge above the Medicare Benefits Schedule, resulting in out-of-pocket costs, which are estimated in the table above.

The Medicare safety net is a government initiative to reduce your out-of-pocket costs once your gap payments reach a certain threshold, making treatment more affordable for people who would otherwise incur very high fees over time. Once you reach this threshold, Medicare will contribute a greater amount to eligible medical services.

The Medicare system can be confusing to navigate. If you have specific questions about the costs of your fertility treatment, we encourage you to talk to us or visit Medicare

Private health insurance and fertility treatment

Inpatient services are those that require a hospital admission, such as a laparoscopy procedure or egg retrieval. If you have an appropriate level of cover on your private health insurance, your provider will cover the gap between the Medicare scheduled fee and the rebate (that is, the remaining 25% not paid by Medicare for inpatient services). Your health insurance’s contribution helps to cover the surgery, attendance by the anaesthetist, the hospital’s fee for use of the operating theatre, theatre staff, equipment, and use of the hospital bed.

Always confirm with your private health insurance provider to ensure you understand what is covered and what isn’t. Additionally, it’s a good idea to clarify any waiting periods, conditions, and exclusions that may impact your treatment. Some health funds may cover the cost of certain medications used in treatment cycles but not all.
